History:
Mukteshwar derives its name from the 350-year-old Mukteshwar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Legend says that a demon was killed by Lord Shiva at this spot, and the temple was built to commemorate the victory. During the British Raj, Mukteshwar served as a research and education center, particularly for horticulture and animal husbandry. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), established in 1893, still operates here.
