History:
Lal Imli (Elgin Mills) was founded by Alexander MacRobert in the late 19th century as a textile mill, becoming a major employer in Kanpur. Initially producing tents and canvas for the British army, it later expanded into other textiles. The mill played a vital role in Kanpur's industrial growth during the colonial period and post-independence. After facing economic challenges, the mill eventually closed down its textile operations.
