The palace, a smaller replica of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, was built in 1820 by King Tsespal Tondup Namgyal after the Dogra rulers took over Leh Palace. It houses the royal family's private collection of artifacts, including exquisite thangkas (Tibetan Buddhist paintings), royal jewelry, ceremonial costumes, and weaponry. The museum provides insights into Ladakhi culture and traditions. Visitors can explore the palace's intricate architecture, enjoy panoramic views of the Stok valley and the Indus Valley, and witness the serene beauty of the surrounding mountains.

History:

Stok Palace was built in 1820 by King Tsespal Tondup Namgyal after the Ladakhi royal family lost Leh Palace during the Dogra invasion. It served as the royal residence for the Namgyal dynasty. The palace complex includes the main palace building, a monastery, and several other structures. The museum within the palace was established to preserve and showcase the royal family's rich heritage and offer visitors a deeper understanding of Ladakhi history and culture. The palace continues to be the residence of the Namgyal family during the summer months.
