History:

INS Khukri was an anti-submarine frigate of the Indian Navy that sank after being torpedoed by the Pakistan Navy submarine PNS Hangor during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. The sinking, which occurred on the night of December 9, 1971, resulted in the loss of 18 officers and 176 sailors. The INS Khukri Memorial was built to commemorate this tragic event and to honor the bravery and sacrifice of the crew. The memorial was inaugurated in 1999 and serves as a reminder of the dedication and valor of the Indian Navy.
