History:

Sukhna Lake was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe, a seasonal stream flowing down from the Shivalik Hills. The visionary behind this project was Le Corbusier, the architect who designed Chandigarh. He envisioned the lake as an integral part of the city's landscape, providing a space for recreation and relaxation. Over the years, the lake has faced challenges due to siltation and reduced water levels. Various efforts have been undertaken to maintain and rejuvenate the lake, including desilting projects and the construction of check dams in the catchment area. Despite these challenges, Sukhna Lake remains a cherished landmark and a symbol of Chandigarh's urban planning.
