Shonga-tser Lake, also known as Madhuri Lake, is a picturesque high-altitude lake nestled amidst the breathtaking landscapes of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and dense coniferous forests, the lake's serene beauty captivates visitors. The crystal-clear waters reflect the surrounding peaks, creating a mesmerizing vista. Colorful prayer flags flutter in the wind, adding a spiritual touch to the already enchanting atmosphere. Shonga-tser Lake was formed due to a landslide caused by an earthquake in 1971. The landslide dammed a river, creating the lake. It is believed that the lake was named Madhuri Lake after the Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit, who shot a song sequence for the film 'Koyla' in the nearby area. The lake holds cultural significance for the local Monpa tribe, who consider it sacred. Over time, it has become a popular tourist destination, attracting nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts alike.
