History:
Bandhavgarh's history is steeped in mythology and royal heritage. The name "Bandhavgarh" translates to "Brother's Fort," linked to the legend of Lord Rama gifting the fort to his brother Lakshmana. The fort itself, perched atop a cliff within the park, dates back centuries and has witnessed the rule of various dynasties, including the Mauryas, Vakatakas, and Sengars. Before becoming a national park in 1968, Bandhavgarh served as the private hunting reserve of the Maharajas of Rewa. The royal family played a significant role in conserving the tiger population, though hunting was also practiced.
